My exhibit in the group's recent exhibition FARBE SATT (FULL COLOUR) in the  Dörken Galerie  is made of paper. I started with a piece of cartridge paper that had been lying around for a while. It was bent so I bent it further and found I liked the shape that emerged. I strengthened it with further layers of paper and a final one of Chinese rice paper which gives a light matte finish I like. Pure pigment gives the piece its vibrant colours, violet on the outside and orange inside, both colurs mixed with red.

Red is the symbol for a multitude of things. Blood is perhaps the first that springs to mind, followed by love, and life is associated with both of these.
In her highly interesting book,
The Secret Lives of Colour, Kassia St. Clair describes the history and quality of seven shades of red. Red is the theme of the novel My Name is Red by the Turkish writer Orhan Pamuk, which tells the story of an apprentice studying miniature painting and manuscript illumination.

The artists' group HAGENRING was founded in 1924, after Hagen (North-Rhine Westphalia) had sold the renowned Folkwang art collection, inherited in 1921 from the deceased art patron Karl-Ernst Osthaus, to the neighbouring town, Essen. Hagen was unable to finance the upkeep and presentation of the collection. Local artists, appalled at the decision, founded the asscociation with the aim of promotimng the arts in Hagen.
