In a Jar 4

From left to right: a hornet, feathers, a cockroach, a piece of hydrangea flower, a piece of wood with glass shard.

These signs of hidden life were handed in with the following comments by their finders:

Hornet, found in the UmBauLabor, Bergmannstraße 23, Gelsenkirchen

"There is life in the walls of the UmBauLabor. If you're very quiet and look carefully, narratives unfold.

This hornet, too, was a tenant in this house. Or was it just visiting? ?"

*

Feathers, found in the back yard, UmbauLabor, see above.

"so delicate

on the black ground.

a young bird?

was it moulting?

Or caught ina fight?

no nest.

who knows?

I wish the bird a good life."

*

Cockroach "La cucaracha" from Spain, kept at the finder's home before she brought it to the exhibition.

The cockroach used the opportunity to migrate as a stowaway in a suitcase from Vinaròs, in Spain, to Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

"There are millions of cockroaches in the drains of Vinaròs. The cast-iron lid is lifted, the animals swarm out in their thousands, the exterminators spray poison into the opening, replace the lid and mark it with fluorescent paint. Task accomplished here."

*

A piece of hydrangea flower, dry on the shrub, picked and placed in a jar as an example of cultivated nature in an urban environment.

It was brought from the neighbouring town, Bochum.

*

A piece of wood, lying on the ground, with a glass shard leaning at an angle to it, reflecting the sun.

A special exhibit that didn't fit a jar, given the name "Ant Mirror" by the finder.

Found in the Wissenschaftspark, Gelsenkirchen-Ückendorf
